Fall season has officially hit in The Bluegrass and we couldn’t be more excited! Sweater weather, pumpkin patches, apple cider donuts and fall-inspired drinks, what’s not to like about this season? And, speaking of fall-inspired drinks, our local coffee shops have not disappointed! Many Central Kentucky coffee shops have added some awesome seasonal items to their menus this fall for you to try, and we were lucky enough to get the inside scoop on the offerings. Here are 8 local coffee shops that you need to visit this season:
High on Art and Coffee
Owned by local Kentuckians, Tim & Ellie, High on Art and Coffee combines beautiful art with fabulous coffee to provide a wonderful customer experience. Sip on local coffee while shopping for stunning art by, you guessed it, local artists! Due to COVID-19 restrictions, they are only serving coffee to-go/curbside, and have their shop online for your convenience! As far as fall drinks go, they have two delicious additions to their menu this season: a Baked Apple Caramel Latte and a Baked Apple Caramel Chai. Drinks are available hot or iced, in different sizes, with your choice of milk – whole, skim, soy, almond or oat. Make sure to stop by and check out this wonderful business that Tim & Ellie have built!
The Amsden
If you’re looking for a cute little getaway outside of Lexington, The Amsden is a place you need to visit. Located in downtown Versailles, KY, The Amsden building houses a variety of local businesses, including the Amsden Coffee Club. This adorable coffee shop has both indoor and outdoor seating, and is connected to Gathered Mercantile, which is a perfect place to shop for local gifts and accessories. The Amsden’s current menu features some wonderful fall drinks, including a Pumpkin Pie Frappuccino and a Pumpkin Spice Cold Foam Iced Coffee, which we had the pleasure of trying. If you ask us, you really can’t go wrong with either drink!
Coffee Times
Coffee Times has been a local favorite in town since the 80s, and continues to be a fun place for customers to work, relax and shop, all while enjoying some freshly-brewed coffee and local baked goods. Their fall specials include a Pumpkin Nut Latte which, in typical Coffee Times-fashion, is absolutely delicious. Whether you’re a pumpkin fan or not, this shop offers a wide variety of drink options and flavor offerings to suit everyone!
A Cup of Common Wealth
A Cup of Common Wealth is a shop that embraces our community and culture, and they really do show this in their shop. The store opened in 2013 ready to serve its community and create a space where culture can be embraced. Something unique you can find at A Cup of Common Wealth and its sister store, Chocolate Holler, is a “Pay It Forward” wall where people can buy drinks in advance for others. Other items the shop serves include house-made syrups, pastries, sandwiches, merch and more! They have some fall drinks on the way, so make sure you stop by and see what all they have to offer!
Old School Coffee
A newer shop to join the local coffee trail in town is Old School Coffee. Opened just a year ago, Old School Coffee is located in the historic Dudley Square, giving the coffee shop “old school” charm with natural light, plant babies and new age designs. They have some really fun fall drinks for you to try, including a Cookie Butter Latte (giving you alllll the Biscoff cookie vibes), a Caramel Apple Latte with homemade organic syrups, and a Bourbon Maple Latte that includes maple syrup aged in a Woodford Reserve Bourbon Barrel by Bourbon Barrel Foods (yes, you heard that right). And, on top of all of that, everything is ethically sourced and made with high quality customer service in mind!
Manchester Coffee Co.
At Manchester Coffee Co, Coffee is an art form, literally. Although the menu may look simple at first glance, it contains some craft coffee that you won’t find anywhere else, and their fall menu definitely agrees with this. Manchester is offering 3 specialty drinks to get you in the fall mood:
- Not Rosemary’s Baby: A cappuccino made with their Charge espresso, cardamom and rosemary simple syrup, steamed milk and torched rosemary, ready to impress.
- Continental Blockade: Made with Charge espresso, chicory syrup, steamed milk, cocoa powder and cayenne, this drink is warm and comforting, with a kick.
- Summer-Ending Soda: An iced drink with matcha, demerara, full fat coconut milk, and topped with Topo Chico and nutmeg, this is a light and refreshing way to say goodbye to summer and hello to the colder months ahead.
Broomwagon
Broomwagon is your one-stop neighborhood shop for bikes/bike service, coffee, great food and more. We explored the coffee side of Broomwagon and enjoyed our experience in their sunny courtyard with picnic tables, gardens and space to socially distance ourselves. They have a few fall drinks to choose from this season, including a Golden Milk Latte, a Dirty Golden Chai and an End-of-Summer Lemonade sure to satisfy you on a warmer fall day. If turmeric and chai aren’t your jam, don’t worry, because they also offer a wide variety of other drinks and additions, so you can make your drink your own!
The Human Bean Lex
Local coffee with the added convenience of a drive-thru, what’s not to like? The Human Bean Lex offers a variety of drink options ranging from brewed coffee, lattes, frozen drinks, smoothies and more. These franchises are typically located in the west coast, so having one right here in Lexington is really a treat! They currently have fall drinks including the Haystack, a butterscotch vanilla mocha, and the Pumpkin Pie Granita, so be sure to check them out while their speciality drinks are still here!
