Maybe you’re thinking about moving to Lexington, Kentucky – or the Bluegrass region – or maybe you already live in Central Kentucky. Either way, as the spring and summer weather warms up, everyone is looking for the best activities, cultural events, concerts and community gatherings in Lexington and Central Kentucky.
Since we love Lexington so much, we think we can offer a few recommendations for what to do around Lexington this summer. Check back for even more activities in Georgetown, Nicholasville, Versailles and more!
Don’t Stop the Music
Rupp Arena – home of the Kentucky Wildcats – hosts the biggest concerts and entertainment acts around, from concerts to Disney on Ice to the circus. And just down the street at The Lexington Opera House you can catch Broadway, ballet and more.
If you’re looking for an indie, local scene, hit up the great music offerings and acts at spots like Buster’s and Willie’s Locally Known. The atmosphere can’t be beat, the bartenders are great and at Willie’s you can also sample some serious comfort food like barbecue and mac and cheese.
The summer is also a great time to live in Lexington – or nearby enough to hang downtown. Thursday Night Live takes over the 5/3 Pavilion with free music, food trucks and beverages – and it’s great for the whole family! TNL is presented by the Downtown Lexington Corporation, which also hosts other events around downtown and is a great resource.
WUKY, Lexington’s local University public radio, has also introduced a new free concert series for the summer on fourth Friday nights, Phoenix Fridays – which begin in June.
Free Flicks
Both Triangle Park, downtown Lexington, and Jacobsen Park on the east side of town offer free movie Fridays during the summer and the parks are great places to visit with family and friends (and dogs – Jacobsen Park has a spacious dog park).
Check out the schedules for Fountain Films on Fridays (Triangle Park) and Free Friday Flicks (Jacobsen Park) and grab a picnic and blanket.
The Bluegrass has so much to offer for residents – the community is strong and there’s always so much to do.
