Summer is in full swing, and the Fourth of July is quickly approaching! Whether you’re planning to have a small celebration with your immediate household or preparing to host a socially distanced BBQ (Additional tips and tricks here!), we’ve put together a list of recipes that are sure to make your celebration a little “sweeter”!
This time of year is the peak season for a variety of fruits (Think strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, etc.!), and they’re the perfect way to satisfy your sweet tooth this Independence Day! In shades of red and blue, fresh berries are patriotic AND delicious!
If you want your fruit to be locally sourced and extra fresh, we recommend Evan’s Orchard in Georgetown, Eckert’s Orchard in Versailles or the Lexington Farmers Market! Evan’s and Eckert’s are both open for berry picking and are now offering curbside pickup as well. Read on for some of our favorite recipes!
Strawberry Jam
This recipe is from the legendary Barefoot Contessa herself, Ina Garten! Spread this jam on some buttery toast, fluffy biscuits, or eat it straight from the jar. It’s that good! Find the full recipe here.
Blueberry Pie
A good pie is always a summer favorite! You just can’t beat the buttery, flaky crust combined with the crisp tartness of fresh fruit. Bonus points if you top your pie with these adorable and easy to make stars. All you need is an extra pie crust and a star-shaped cookie cutter. Minimal effort for maximum cuteness! Berry Trifle
We couldn’t put together a list of recipes and not include one of our own! Our Marketing Coordinator, Mariam Said, whipped up this incredible looking Berry Trifle, and it’s amazing! We just can’t get over the cute flag-inspired design she created with fresh fruit! Find the full recipe here and make sure to check out a few of her many delicious creations while you’re there!
Fruit Pizza
Fruit pizza is a Fourth of July classic and for good reason! This recipe only takes 20 minutes to make from start to finish and is endlessly customizable! Top your sugar cookie “pizza” with whatever fruit you’d like and have fun decorating! For more detailed instructions, we love this recipe from lifestyle blogger Julie Blanner.
White Chocolate Covered Strawberries
Okay, can we just talk about how cute these festive chocolate covered strawberries are?! We’re obsessed! Get as creative as you’d like when decorating, and check out Driscoll’s recipe for the full instructions!
Sparkling Berry Cocktail
Temperatures have been HOT these days, so of course we had to include a refreshing drink recipe to help you stay cool! This sparkling berry cocktail is as pretty as it is delicious! Add your liquor of choice or skip the alcohol completely for a kid-friendly beverage!
Patriotic Fruit Cubes
Our list wouldn’t be complete without this simple idea from last year’s blog post! Just add some berries to an ice tray, fill with water and enjoy! These festive ice cubes are the perfect way to liven up a pitcher of water without adding extra sugar or calories!
We hope you enjoy these recipes and have as much fun making them as we did putting this post together! We would love to see what you all come up with, so upload a picture of your creations and make sure to tag us on Facebook or Instagram for a chance to be featured! Here’s wishing everyone a happy and healthy Fourth of July!
